..On January 12th, 2019, Bertha Mai Hickman, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away at the age of 102. It was a journey she looked forward to. She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin, and her eldest son, Charles.
Bertha was born to Nettie and Will Gaskill in Santa Fe, TN on June 30, 1916, and she lived most of her life in Nashville and Madison. Active in church all of her life, she loved the Lord and lived life to the fullest. She was known affectionately as Granny Bert, and she loved and was loved by many. A small woman with a big heart, she is survived by two sons, Winston (Jane), and Glenn (Jane), daughter-in-law, Sue and six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandchild. Bertha traveled to every state in the union and had a refrigerator magnet to prove it. She enjoyed playing dominoes with friends and family, and she was an avid sports fan. The Vanderbilt Commodores were the recipients of her vigorous cheering for football, basketball and baseball. The Atlanta Braves were also favorites.
The family is sincerely appreciate of the loving care provided by the employees of Progress, especially Betty Martin.
Visitation will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home from one o'clock until two thirty on Tuesday, January 15th, 2019 with services following at two thirty in the afternoon in Woodlawn's Dignity Hall.
