Betty Jean Bybee Smith died peacefully at home on August 27, 2019, in Nashville, TN.

Betty was born on May 25, 1932, in the Hurricane community of Jackson Co., TN.

Betty was preceded in death by husband of 68 years, Aaron G Smith; parents Barlow and Mary Flynn Bybee; brothers, Willie, George, and Walter; and sisters, Dorothy Palutis, Daffo Locke, Beulah Bybee, Mary Bushart, and Linda Bybee.

She is survived by daughter, Jerrelyn Smith; son, Jeffrey Smith (Tanja), granddaughter, Jennie Smith-Peers (Paul), and step-granddaughter, Erika Glaskox.

Betty finished third in her class at Jackson County High in Gainesboro, TN in 1949, and attended accounting classes at UT night school in Nashville.

She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who was an accomplished seamstress, and an award-winning gardener with a gift for cooking and making others feel loved. Together with Aaron, they enjoyed traveling, which took them to 49 states, Mexico, Panama, and the Bahamas.

Her family is forever indebted to her for the unwavering care she provided to her husband, as his primary caregiver, since 2001, all the while seamlessly juggling her needs and those of her family. Words cannot express how much we will miss her.

Visitation at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home on August 31, 2019 from 10:00am - 12:00pm with a celebration of life to follow at 12Noon. Burial will be at Rob Draper Memorial Cemetery in Gainesboro, TN.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Iona Senior Services at www.iona.org , or to a charity of your choice.
