Carl Elton Tomes

Carl Elton Tomes, age 70, went to be with the Lord June 18, 2018.

Preceded in death by parents Alton and Pauline Tomes; brothers Edward Tomes and Alton Wayne Tomes; and wife Bonnie J. Tomes.

Survived by daughter Virginia “Ginnie” Maxwell (Justin); son Jeremy Tomes (Kristin); grandchildren Addie Tomes, Camryn Tomes, Jake Maxwell, Deyahn Tomes, and Joah Maxwell; step-grandchildren Melissa Oran and Lexi Oran; step-great-grandchild Gavin Oran; sister Dorothy St. John Winget (Doug); many beloved nieces and nephews.

Carl graduated from David Lipscomb College and received a Master’s Degree in Education from TSU. He was the founder of the Nashville Christian Athletic Program where he was a teacher and coach for many years. Carl retired as a teacher and started his own Upholstery business known as Carl Tomes Custom Upholstery.

Funeral Service will be 10am Friday, June 22 at Marshall-Donnelly-Combs Funeral Home. Family will receive friends Thursday, June 21 from 4:30-8pm and one hour prior to service.

We strongly request in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Encouragement Ministries, Lipscomb University’s Athletic General Fund, Mount Juliet Little League, or Monrovia Parks and Recreation Association.

I always loved Carl. He was always so excited to see you, greeting you with a big smile and something he'd been waiting to tell you. He helped make Gimnie and Jeremy into the amazing people they are and two of the most influential people in my young life. I will miss him.
