Vic was born on May 29, 1924 in Tuscaloosa, AL, the son of Victor Charles and Christine Hagler Batson. He attended and graduated from the University of Alabama and remained a faithful fan throughout his life (RTR). He married Frank Wallace on September 27, 1954 in Nashville, TN.
Vic moved to Nashville during the Blizzard of 1951 and became one of the first TV anchors for what was at the time one of the biggest radio and TV stations in the south, WSM. He was a great personality in the area, and he MCed the Grand Ole Opry for several years. Later when Vic and Frank decided to start a family, Vic left broadcasting and moved into sales. This role fit their lifestyle better and allowed him to be the true family man he wanted to be. He would work for Williams Printing Company for over 35 years prior to his retirement.
Vic loved his church family and was faithful to God. He and Frank were members of the West End Church of Christ for over 40 years where Vic served as a Deacon and taught many of the classes. When not attending church or teaching classes, Vic was an avid photographer and even had a few of his photographs published by National Geographic. He loved to travel with Frank, and he loved the many camping trips that they took with their children. Every year, Vic and Frank would take their kids somewhere. At first, they would travel to the beach each year, but their love of the mountains eventually led them out west where they fell in love with the Rocky Mountains, a place that Vic would continue to return to even up to his 91st birthday. Vic and Frank were also able to travel internationally and share the world together.
An easygoing man, Vic loved spending time with his family and his grandkids. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Vic was a true father figure to many throughout life.
Surviving is his wife, Frank Batson; son, Vic Batson; daughter, Lea (Jonathan) Snell; grandchildren, Jessica Gardner, Christopher Snell, and Victoria Snell; and great-grandchildren, Judah Gardner, Edith Gardner, Florence Gardner, and Josef Snell.
Preceding him in death are his parents.
A gathering of friends and family will be from eleven o’clock in the morning until one o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, July 20, 2019, and a Celebration of Life will follow at one o’clock in Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Homes Dignity Hall. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
