He will be lovingly missed by his wife Ingrid, children Andreas and Mila, mom Joan Baines (Dave), sisters Gillian Bresch-Giesbrecht (George) and Megan Bresch, Grandmother June Lussier, Stepmother Linda Bresch, as well as nieces and nephews, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his dad Geoff Bresch, Grandma Mary Bresch, Grandpas Gerald Lussier and George Bresch.
Don was born on July 18, 1977 at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, MB. Don grew up loving all things Stars Wars and Star Trek with his family. He was an avid video game player, especially the Final Fantasy series. Some of Don’s fondest memories include: fishing with his Dad, playing cards with his Grandpa and sisters, going to West Hawk every summer with his Lake Family (Hausers), and running around with the Lussier aunts, uncles and cousins. Don also enjoyed reading, especially science fiction and fantasy books.
At the age of 5, he began his courageous battle with leukemia. When Don was 8-years-old, after two relapses, he was declared terminal. Don beat the odds and became a walking miracle. Although his childhood was filled with many challenges, he always had a joyful and tenacious spark of life.
After he completed high school, he enrolled in the Culinary Arts Program at Red River College. He met his wife Ingrid at a To Encounter Christ (TEC) retreat, and they became friends. They eventually started dating and were married at St. Bernadette Church in 2005. Don had the trip of his life with Ingrid when they went to visit her family in Germany on their honeymoon.
After a few years of working as a line cook, Don went back to Red River to earn his Health Care Aide Certificate. He brought his gentleness and empathy to the people that he cared for. Don continued to cook and share his love of food with people. One of his proudest accomplishments was the day he became a Red Seal Chef.
In recent years, Don worked at Life’s Journey where he became a house manager and later the Assistant Coordinator. Don loved working with his clients and coworkers. He had finally found his true calling in supporting others.
Don and Ingrid welcomed their first child, Andreas, in 2011. Mila was born in 2017. The miracle of his 2 beautiful children became his source of strength and reason for living. Don particularly enjoyed being silly with his kids, playing at the playground, sharing his love of video games with Andreas, and trying to keep up with a very active Mila. Family trips to the zoo were a favourite.
Just recently, Don discovered a love of gardening, especially potatoes, pumpkins, tomatoes, and of course, his herbs for cooking.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Don on Tuesday, August 23rd 2022 at 6:30pm at Green Acres Funeral Home (on HWY 1).
The family would like to thank Don’s friends who supported Ingrid and Don through his most recent illnesses, especially Terralee and Mary Lou. Special thanks to the staff on the Surgical Ward at Bethesda Hospital whose kindness and caring made Don’s passing as peaceful and comfortable as possible.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.greenacresfuneralhome.com for the Bresch family.
