Doris L. (Spooner) Tripp, age 94, of New Bedford, formerly of Dartmouth, passed away Monday, May 7, 2018 in the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home. She was the wife of Willis B. Tripp.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Frank H. and Ruth D. (Turner) Spooner and was a graduate of New Bedford Regional Vocation Technical High School and often told her daughters of how she learned to bake all kinds of pastry as well as learning to identify what type of sweet was inside a chocolate candy based on the swirl on the candy’s top.

Dartmouth and Laurie Grandmont of Buzzards Bay; three grandchildren Megan Grandmont Melendy, William Grandmont and Evan Grandmont; nephews, Peter Ryder, Jeffrey Spooner, Scoot Spooner; and great nephew, David Ryder. She is predeceased by brothers Zachary Spooner, Robert Spooner, Leonard Spooner and sisters, Marion (Spooner) Ryder, Ruth (Spooner) Hataway and Betty Spooner.

She often said that the salt water was the greatest healing agent which her children hold as true today. Summers at Round Hill swimming and spending time at the beach with her children were one of her favorite experiences.

An excellent baker, she will always be remembered for her many deserts and especially for the countless pancakes she would make for her children and neighbor’s children who challenged each other for the most consumed.

Doris is also remembered as a Girl Scot Leader in Dartmouth and hosted Fresh Air children from New York City every summer. She dedicated her life to raising her children and caring for her grandchildren, Megan, William and Evan after school.

Lessons of sharing and giving back to others was paramount. A kind soul, she always put other’s needs before hers and willingly shared whatever she had unconditionally with others.
