Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Antonio and Maria (Vieira) Fernandes she was a lifelong resident and a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, New Bedford.
Florence was a factory worker for various mills throughout the City. Family was the most important part of her life and meant everything to her.
Florence’s family would like to thank the entire staff at Autumn Glen at Dartmouth for their care and compassion over the last few years and the staff at Hathaway Manor for their care during the past two months.
She is survived by two daughters, Shirley and husband, Donald LeRoux of Plymouth, MA and Janice and husband Richard Caldon of Charlestown, RI; six grandchildren, Steven, Karen, Gary, Sue, Lynne, and Scott; 13 great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five siblings, Anthony “Curly”, Alexandrina “King” (Ponte), Lenny, Sally (Mandeville) and Sal.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, December 3, 2020 at 11 a.m.in St. Mary’s Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
