Gladys M. (McConvill) Duphily, 97, of New Bedford passed away Thursday, October 29, 2020 in the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home. She was the wife of the late Raymond H. Duphily. They were happily married for 40 years.
Born in Dartmouth, on the family farm, a daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Finch) McConvill, she grew up there before moving to New Bedford. She was a communicant of St. George Church in Westport where she was baptized and married.
Mrs. Duphily graduated from Dartmouth High School where she always said some of her happiest memories were made. She worked as a bookkeeper at Bay State TV and Dawson’s Brewery.
They family would like to thank the staff of the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home for enriching her life daily. Truly her time on earth was immensely enhanced by the care she received there.
Gladys was a former member of the Acushnet Historical Society, the Dartmouth and Acushnet Council on Aging, the Freetown VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and a lifelong member of the Dartmouth High School Alumni Association. Mrs. Duphily loved traveling the country with her family and grandchildren in their Airstream trailer. In her spare time, she enjoyed being with her family and line dancing. She was an accomplished cookie maker and she loved getting flowers and Christmas trees from her grandmother’s farm in North Dartmouth.
She is survived by her four children, Raymond G. Duphily of Dartmouth, Dennis A. Duphily of Lakeville, Nancy Maurer of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, and Dr. Carol A. Duphily and her husband Patrick Sheridan of New Bedford; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late William, Mildred, George, Edward and Kenneth McConvill, mother-in-law of the late Anne Duphily, Hans Maurer and Michael A. Forgue and grandson Michael R. Forgue.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 9 a.m. in St. George Church, 12 Highland Ave., Westport. Burial will be private.
