Leon N. Branchaud

Leon Normand Branchaud, 88, of New Bedford, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Marie A. (LeBlanc) Branchaud with whom he shared 64 years of marriage.

Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Leon Herve and Irene (Surprenant) Branchaud.

Mr. Branchaud served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Bennington, which suffered one of the worst accidents in US naval history.

Leon learned the art of drafting and worked for several local architects and contractors. He then taught Engineering Drawing at Bristol Community College for seven years. He became certified as an architectural designer and owned Constructive Drafting Services for 15 years, until his retirement.

Leon proudly created works of art, enjoyed wood carving and model making. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was also Past President and member of the former St. Joseph St. Therese Couples Club.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Louise Branchaud of Fairhaven, Armand Branchaud of Fall River and Michelle McDonald of Fairhaven; one sister, Annette Lemieux and her late husband Henri of New Bedford; two grandchildren, Matthew and Jillian McDonald of Fairhaven and many nieces and nephews.

His Funeral will be held on Monday, January 7, 2019 at 9am from the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Funeral Mass at 10am in St. Joseph-St. Therese Church, Acushnet Ave., New Bedford. Burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours Sunday 2-5pm. Flowers welcome or donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
