Edna Inez Skinner Register, 91, passed peacefully from this world and into heaven on Thursday February 7, 2013. She was a member of Gethsemane Free Will Baptist Church in Tuscarora, NC. She was a very devoted mother of 5 sons and spent her life taking care of her boys. Her license plate even read "My5sons".
She was born Nov. 15, 1921 in Wilson County. She married her husband, James Albert (JA) Register on Sept. 8, 1941. He was a career Navy man, so she set off on a long military career before he retired in 1960 and moved back to Tuscarora where they engaged in farming.
During her life in addition to raising her 5 sons, she traveled with her husband and lived in New Jersey, Washington, Rhode Island, Virginia, Qingdao, China, Newfoundland, and Puerto Rico. During this time as a busy mother and housewife, she also took time to help teach a nursery school on the base in Puerto Rico which she always said was her favorite job.
After retiring, she moved back on the farm and started farming again. She worked very hard in helping her husband get the farm moving in the right direction. After the death of her husband in 1984, she moved to New Bern in her favorite little brick home and worked for Rose's Department store until she retired in 2000. Her favorite hobby of all time was growing Roses. She became known as the Rose lady of the area and she was very proud of all varieties of roses that she grew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, JA Register and her granddaughter Kimberly Register. She is survived by her 5 sons; Jimmy and wife Jeannie Register of Greenville, NC, Bobby and wife Cathy Register of Tampa, Fl, Pat and wife Jane Register, Dale and wife Patricia Register and Ricky Register of Kinston, NC.
She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren; Julie Hill, Kristie Dail, Jamie Godwin, Alan Register, Robbie Register, Shannon Register, Lynn Register, Amanda Register, Lisa Jernigan, Dennis, Register, Jordan Register, and Amber Agee.
She is also survived by her 14 Great grand Children; Gavin Hill, Carly Hill, Kirsten Haggart, Peri Dail, Tyler Godwin, Brianna Godwin, Michael Register, Davis Register, Brody Register, Matt McCoy, Tanner McCoy, Colby Jernigan, Kayleigh Register, Allison Register and one Great-Great Grandchild; Kenleigh Haggart.
Visitation will take place from 6 - 7 pm, Monday February 11, 2013 at Cotten Funeral Home, New Bern, NC. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 11, 2013 at 7 pm at Cotten funeral home. She will be interned next to her husband in New Bern National Cemetery, Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 11 am.
