James "Jimmy" P. Bottcher, son of the late Rufus and Margaret Bottcher, passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2018, at Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport, NC. Jimmy was a resident of New Bern, NC, at the time of his passing.
Jimmy was born on November 7, 1945 in New York, NY, and graduated from St. Simon Stock High School in the Bronx. Jimmy was the loving husband of Rose for 44 years. He was also an International Brotherhood Workers (IBEW), Local Union 3, electrician in New York, NY for 50 years.
After moving to North Carolina from Oak Ridge, NJ 15 years ago, he became active in the Knights of Columbus at St. Paul's Catholic Church in New Bern and volunteered his time to many projects and activities. At St. Paul's Church, he served as an usher and altar server. In addition, he was a member of the Elks Lodge 764.
Jimmy will be remembered for his friendliness and helpfulness to anyone in need, as well as his signature curtsy to the ladies.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Bottcher; step-daughter, Denise Marino of Oak Ridge, NJ; sister, Ellen Sharkey, and her husband, William Sharkey of Jefferson, NJ; brother, John Bottcher, and his wife, Rose Ann of Hawley, PA; nephews, Michael, Joseph, and Richard Bottcher, and Chris Sharkey; and loving niece, Laura Sharkey.
A visitation will be held at 9:00 am on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 3005 Country Club Rd., in New Bern, NC. A mass will follow at 10:00 am. A second funeral mass will take place at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church, 5635 Berkshire Valley Rd. in Oak Ridge, NJ at 10:00 am on Friday, August 24, 2018. A visitation will be held an hour before from 9:00 to 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crystal Coast Hospice House, 100 Big Rock Weigh, Newport, NC, 28570, where Jimmy received compassionate care in his final days.
