Mildred Mehaffey Williams

Mildred Mehaffey Williams, 85, of New Bern, died at home July 2, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was the eighth and last surviving child of C.R. Mehaffey, Sr. and Rosa King. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for 37 years.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, George G. Williams, Jr.; three children: sons Gordon G. Williams and wife, Debbie; Dale L. Williams and wife, Mary Beth; and daughter Emily W. Attaway and husband, Ron; five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was an elementary school teacher in North Carolina and Georgia for 26 years and taught well over 700 children during their young formative years. After retirement from the Craven County school system, she served as both the President and Chaplin of the Craven County Retired Teachers’ Association.

Visitation will be on Friday, July 5, 2013 at Cotten Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Services will be held at Cotton Funeral Home on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations made to Craven County, NC Hospice (252-636-4930) or Tabernacle Baptist Church Family Life Center Fund at P. O. Box 1510, New Bern, NC 28563.

I'm sorry to hear of the passing of "Mama Duck"......she was a very special and loving person. She was such a blessing during the time I spent with you and your family while in Greenville. No finer person have I ever met in my life.
