Maria Luisa Alvarez went to be with the Lord Sunday, March 17, 2019 at the age of 88. She was born in Kingsville, Texas on February 15, 1931 to Lionel and Josefa De La Rosa. Maria later married the love of her life Sixto Reyes Alvarez. She was a proud military wife and loved to travel. She loved being a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Maria was an amazing cook and enjoyed gardening and family get-togethers. Babies always made her smile and she loved when her great grandbabies would come and visit. Her love and compassion will be greatly missed.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents Lionel and Josefa De La Rosa; loving husband of 68 years, Sixto Reyes Alvarez; son, Rene Roberto Alvarez; sister, Elena Martinez; and brother, Lionel De La Rosa Jr.
She is survived by son, Eddie Alvarez and wife Kym; grandchildren, Elizabeth A. Alvarez, Courtney B. Bullard (Richard), Shelby L. Alvarez; great grandchildren, Finley Bullard, Riley Bullard, Aidan McWhorter and Keenan McWhorter; brother Jose “Pepe” De La Rosa; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Public visitation will be held Sunday, April 7, 2019 from 3-7 pm at Zoeller funeral home in New Braunfels, TX. The Funeral Service will be Monday April 8, 2019 at 10 am at Zoeller Funeral Home, with a light reception to immediately follow. Graveside Service will begin at 2 pm at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wreaths Across America.
