Mary Alice Olesky, 54, of New Britain, passed away unexpectedly at home on July 11, 2019. Mary was born on September 1, 1964 in Hartford to the late Edward J. Olesky, Sr. and Beverly (Tennant) Olesky. Mary attended Elmwood Elementary and Talcott Jr. High Schools and graduated from Conard High School in West Hartford in 1982. In high school, Mary excelled in women’s volleyball and softball. Mary went on to graduate from the Morse School of Business in Hartford and worked in the insurance industry at Harford Steam Boiler, Industrial Risk Insurers and finally at Joseph A. Krarr & Associates.
In 2005 Mary and her long-time companion, the late Paul J. Adamowich of New Britain, gave birth to their daughter, Sarah Adamowich. Mary gave up her professional career and enjoyed spending the first few years at home with their daughter. After Sarah started St. Mary’s School in Newington, Mary became an active member of the St. Mary’s Home -School Association and chaired many of the school’s fundraising events.
Mary was a sports enthusiast all her life and was an avid fan of UConn women’s basketball, Red Sox baseball, Vikings football, and Boston Bruins hockey teams. Mary enjoyed playing golf, played women’s softball for Shannon’s Bar in Hartford and bowled in the Hartford Insurance Duck Pin Bowling League for many years. Mary had a special place in her heart for those less fortunate and was a long-time member of the Women of the Loyal Order of the Moose and also volunteered to work at the Connecticut Special Olympics over many years. Mary loved animals and rescued four beautiful dogs during her lifetime. She also enjoyed boating and spent many happy summers at the shore in Westbrook with the Adamowich family.
In addition to her daughter Sarah, Mary is survived by a brother, William Olesky, of Newington, a maternal aunt and uncle, Raymond and Gail Tennant of Farmington, a maternal aunt, Mary Tennant of East Hartford, a number of cousins and other relatives and a host of good friends too numerous to name individually. Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her oldest brother, Edward J. Olesky, Jr.,who she remembered fondly.
Calling hours will be Thursday, July 18, 2019, from 4 – 8pm at the New Britain Memorial & Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Avenue, New Britain. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 19, 2019 starting at 8:30am at the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30am at Sacred Heart Church, 158 Broad Street, New Britain. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
