April 22, 1920 – March 7, 2013
George R. Burman Sr., of New City, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2013, of natural causes. He was 92 years old. He was born in Ridgewood, NY on April 22, 1920 to Charles and Anna (Lundquist) Burman, the last of nine children. He was predeceased by his parents, five brothers, three sisters and two nephews.
Upon graduation from Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood, he enlisted in the Army, subsequently attended Officer's Candidate School in Fort Lee, VA and proudly served his country in the European and Pacific Theaters of Operation. After his discharge from World War II, he remained in the U.S. Army Reserve and was called to serve again in the Korean War. Upon his retirement from the Reserve, he had attained the rank of Colonel. He was a graduate of the Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, KS.
He obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from New York University and for many years was employed as Manager of Investor Relations for Asiatic Petroleum Corporation in Manhattan. He was later employed at Lederle Laboratories (now Pfizer) as an Administrator.
George enjoyed sports, especially the New York Yankees (while also respecting the Mets), the NY Giants, and enjoyed reading. He was always ready for a good political discussion with family and friends, preferably along with a cold beer. He took particular pride in his family, especially his grandchildren, and kept well informed and interested in their accomplishments. He also loved their family dog, "Bailey," who brought much joy and happiness when he visited.
George is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Emma (Emmy Lou); one son, George R. Burman Jr. of Lewisburg, PA; one daughter, Susan (Chris) DeMicco of Little Falls, NJ; and two grandchildren, Christopher G. DeMicco (Vicky), and Megan E. DeMicco; two brothers-in-law, Arthur (Eileen) Kimbark, and William (Mary) Kimbark, along with several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 10, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Higgins Funeral Home, South Main St., New City. Funeral services will take place at the funeral home on Monday, March 11, 2013 at 11 am. Burial will take place at Germonds Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Congers Presbyterian Church, 17 Highway Avenue, Congers, NY 10920, or to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O.
