Marie J. Slagle

Marie J. Slagle passed away peacefully from this world on January 18, 2011 with her loving family by her side. Marie was 83 years old. She was the youngest daughter born to Josephine and Gennaro Capacchione on May 29th 1927. Growing up in the Little Italy section of the Bronx during the great depression, Marie was proud of her Italian heritage and developed kindness, love, and fondness to care for others. She attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel in the Bronx. She loved Opera music, Elvis, Perry Como and all of God's creatures and animals. She worked for The Home Aids of Rockland, caring for the elderly for 20 years. Marie married Walter T. Slagle, formerly of the Bronx, on February 15th, 1953 and spent the next 57 years of her life with him, raising their children and creating a warm and loving home. Marie is survived by the love of her life, Walter; her children Donna Hopper and husband Wayne of Cornwall, NY, Joanne Fitzpatrick and husband Kenny of Florida, NY, Walter J. Slagle and wife Lisa of Fishkill, NY, and Jeff Slagle and Kim Tucci of New City, NY; her cherished grand children Michael Fitzpatrick, Jonathan Fitzpatrick, Jess Hopper, Tyler Slagle, Jake Slagle, Dean Slagle, and Daria Slagle. She is also survived by her sister, Connie Penkovsky, and brother, Jerry Capa, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Viewing will be held on Saturday January 22 from 10-11:30 am at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Services will be held at 11:30 on Saturday.
