I was very saddened & shocked to hear about Tony's passing. He had so much life yet to live. For several years I did an ECFE night class at Winnetka and got to know Tony a little because he also worked then. Nichole and family, you have my deepest sympathy. Right now it is hard to understand why. But I hope you can find some comfort and support from your family & friends. May God guide you now and during the difficult days ahead. Love and blessings to your family, Betty Helvig

Tony was one of my best friends and first crush as we were elementary students together at Sacred Heart. I was a bit of an odd duck little girl - over weight with a goofy haircut and sometimes got picked on - Tony always stood up for me and gave me the nickname Sarah Bean.

It’s been years since I saw Tony but another Sacred Heart friend (Sarah Mueller) and I were just talking the day before Tony passed that my 3-year old son reminded us both so much of Tony - both in looks and kindness of heart. Says a lot that after 39 years of meeting him and at least 20 since I saw him - I still think of him when I see my son.

I know I don’t have words or really grasp why Tony is gone - but to Angie and Terry and all those who loved Tony may the memories of his smile, his kindness and loving soul provide some comfort as you say goodbye.

And Tony - you are always in my heart and I can’t wait to tell my son about you as he grows up. If my son turns out to be half the friend, man and person you were in the short time Earth got to hold you - I’ll be one proud mama.

I truly love you old friend. And I’ll miss you always.

I'm so sorry for your family's loss. I first met Tony when we both worked at the JCC some time ago. He has done personal training for my husband for 9 pus years! He also was working with my daughter (who has some physical challenges that lead to a great deal of pain in her body). Tony was always so kind and very intuitive about what my daughter needed and for her specific condition. He went the extra steps in making her feel comfortable and in truly seeing what she should be doing- something people with years and years of medical experience and education weren't able to do prior. Beyond any of that he simply was a genuine and giving person who is already greatly missed.

Tony was the "ring bearer" in our wedding. His Mom (Terry) told him if he was VERY good and bring the ring and pillow down the aisle with his cousin Nadine he would get LOTS of good food and cake afterwords. He was an angel and did a very fine job.
Now, 40 years later we pray for him. We have such empathy for Terry, Angie, Grammy, Nicole and his children. Loss is never easy for those of us left here on earth. You are all in our prayers. Rest in peace and love Tony.
