Susan ”Sue” Dumesnil Boudreaux, our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, gently closed her eyes to this earthly life and entered into eternal peace and rest Monday, October 30, 2023. At her passing she was 81.
Sue was born March 22, 1942 in Franklin to the late Dudley P. Dumesnil and the late Beatrice Boudreaux Dumesnil and was one of two daughters born to that union. Her family shared their mother’s fond memories of growing up in Franklin and helping out in her parent’s business, Bea’s Diner. After graduating from Franklin High School in 1960, she went on to become a beautician. In her spare time back then, she and Nancy along with their friends, often made rosaries to be donated to the catholic churches in foreign countries.
Many will remember Sue for the years she worked with the House of Wheels Skating Rink in New Iberia. It was a fun time for her to see not only her children enjoying themselves, but all of the other children as well. She also spent time working with Simoneaud’s Grocery, Menard’s Grocery, and most recently at Victor’s Cafeteria in downtown New Iberia. Her children shared how much she loved being at Victor’s, seeing all the regular diners and talking with everyone that came in.
Outside of her work, Sue enjoyed taking care of her yard, watching her beloved LSU Tigers on Saturday and New Orleans Saints on Sunday, and sitting down with a good cup of coffee to begin the day. We grieve her passing and know that she is not gone from us, only gone on before us. Her memory will live on in the hearts and thoughts of all who loved her. Rest well. We love you.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children; Suzette Boudreaux Hebert and husband Dave; Emile John Boudreaux and wife Tina, and Stephanie Boudreaux; her grandchildren, Devin Boudreaux and wife Renasha, Seth Boudreaux, Brittany Boudreaux, Nicolas Hebert, Megan Bonin and husband Ryan and Haley Polk and husband Tyler; eight great grandchildren, Emma, Hayden, Kassidy, Raigh, Devin, Jr., Kinsley, Taylee and Indie; her only sister, Nancy Margaret Dumesnil who was always there for Sue, who stood by her side no matter the circumstances, and loved her with all her heart; and her dear friends, Judy Dodge, Marjorie Lavergne and Ara Mae Brunet.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, John Davis Boudreaux; and her parents, Dudley and Beatrice Dumesnil.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Sue’s life will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church at 9:30 am Friday, November 3, 2023 with Fr. David Furka as celebrant. Following the mass, Sue will be laid to rest alongside her parents at Franklin Cemetery Mausoleum.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday at St. Peter Catholic Church from 8:30 am until time of mass.
Serving as pallbearers are Devin and Seth Boudreaux, Nicolas Hebert and Ryan Dodge. Honorary pallbearers are Ted Legnon and Victor Huckabee.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hospice of Acadiana for their care and compassion shown while caring for our dear mother. They would also like to thank Sue’s dear friend and guardian angel, Judy Dodge, for always being there for Sue. You are all greatly appreciated.
