Thelma Babin Hulin, a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister and dear friend, passed away peacefully Sunday August 23, 2020 at Iberia Medical Center. She was 77 years young.

Thelma was born September 24, 1942 in Cypress Island to the late Leo Babin and the late Yolande Melancon Babin and was one of 13 children to that union. She and her husband Curtis met while they were both working for National Supermarket here in New Iberia, and it was the beginning of a beautiful marriage and career in the grocery business that would span over 55 years. They would eventually become owners and operators of Bi-Lo Supermarket and Daspit Supermarket. She was a longtime member of Nativity of Our Lady Church Parish where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Ladies Altar Society.

Thelma’s favorite pastime was going to the Casino with her friend’s known as the “5 Golden Girls”. Many fond memories were made with those ladies as they visited casinos from Lake Charles to the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

She leaves a legacy of love and friendship that will be cherished forever by those who knew and loved her. Rest well for you have earned your heavenly reward.

Survivors include her husband and best friend of 55 years, Curtis J. Hulin; her son, Tommy Hulin; her two sisters, Jenny Lopiccolo and Jane Stevick; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and dear friends.

I was secretary at Daspit Elem. for many years until I retired. Thelma was always generous when asked for a donation for functions at our school. I also remember our casino trips to Jena Cocktaw near Alexandria.

Rest In Peace. Thelma . You put up a good fight for so long.

My most fond memory of Thelma is me and my mom sitting around my Aunt Sis’s table visiting with my cousins.
Thelma, Jenny and a couple of her brothers showed up unexpectedly. That’s when the conversation really got lively!! Everyone was ‘catching up’ with each other Chairs were full (Countertops too) She will be missed.

There are so many memories I have of Thelma and me that all great. I will miss her terribly. She was my aunt/godmother/sister and according to Thelma her advisor. My favorite memory is for my birthday in 2015 at my sister's Rachel's house. A song started playin Love Potion #9 and her and Aunt Jenny (her sister), Alexa was dancing. Thelma was having a blast. I will miss all the good times and our talks when we were together.
