Jim was born in New London to Toufie and Emma Azar Fakourey on September 26, 1926. He graduated from Chapman Tech and Mitchell College, both in New London, Connecticut. Over the years Jim had a variety of jobs. He was proud of his many years of dedicated service to United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) on both a local and regional level. Other jobs included driving a taxi cab, and managing a local drinking establishment and deli. Jim was a proud veteran of World War II as well as the Korean conflict, serving in the Army. He compared his military responsibilities to those of Radar O’Reilly in MASH. He kept the records meticulously. He was awarded an Army of Occupation Medal and a World War II Victory Medal.
Jim was an extremely active volunteer. His affiliations included the Neighborhood Alliance of New London, Gordon Court Tenant’s Association, Friends of the Old Town Mill, Hodges Square Association, the Save Riverside Park group, and the New London Housing Authority. Jim’s history as a volunteer for TVCCA extended over 15 years. He coordinated activities between volunteers from the Navy, Coast Guard, and numerous local service organizations which benefited the Gordon Court neighborhood. He was especially proud of arranging the annual Thanksgiving dinner provided by Mitchell College for all the residents of the Gordon Court neighborhood.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Toufie and Emma Azar Fakourey , and his brother, Philip J. Fakourey.
Jim would have liked to thank his friends Felix Reyes, Gabe, Eric Parnes, Lance and Susan Corrice and Amanda and Lily Corrdice (who he considered his granddaughters), Annie Stockton-Sabrowski and her husband, Chris Sabrowski, Barbara Dixon and her husband, Don McKay, his friends at the New London Housing Authority, and friends and staff at Mr.G’s. Also, the countless others who were part of his life. Of special note is his late friend, Nancy Desmarais, without whose assistance he may have passed earlier. He will be missed by his cat, Precious.

Jim was a kind man and a family friend. The last time I saw him was when he attended my mom's service last August. Although he couldn't walk, he insisted on coming. All dressed up in a suit. That is how he will be remembered. Donna
