Cheryl Ann Lacoste, 69, a native of New Orleans and long-time resident of Metairie, passed away in her home, due to natural causes, on January 26, 2021. She is survived by her mother, Marion Caillier Lacoste; her brother, Sidney John Lacoste, Jr. (Diana and daughter Emma Morel); her niece, Meredith Lacoste Rongey (Matt) and their children, Juliette, Mae, and Charlie. She will also be missed by a host of cousins. Cheryl is predeceased by her beloved father, Sidney John Lacoste, Sr.
Cheryl graduated from Incarnate Word School, Archbishop Chapelle High School, and the University of New Orleans, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics. During her years in school, she worked in the candy department in Maison Blanche. The telephone company became her permanent career destination – South Central Bell, BellSouth, and eventually AT&T, from which she retired. She was well-known for her dedicated work ethic. Cheryl could always be counted on to perform her job to the best of her ability – and her ability was superior. She always credited her dad’s wisdom and advice for guiding her life’s path.
Since her father’s death in 2006, Cheryl looked after her mother with love and devotion, especially during the pandemic. No parent could ask for better care.
Cheryl was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Louis King of France Church. She loved God and her family, had a special relationship with Jesus, and championed the less fortunate. She even delighted in nursing plants on the verge of death back to life. She would joyfully purchase the sickly specimens from the nursery, knowing that her love and care would revive them.
A Catholic Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Lake Lawn Funeral Home. Because of Covid restrictions in New Orleans, the visitation and service will be private. Interment will be in the Lake Lawn Mausoleum immediately following the Mass. Cheryl will be laid to rest with her father. Since it is outdoors, those who were unable to participate in the service may attend the graveside eulogy and burial at 12 PM – up to 25 people.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cheryl’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
