Donnie W. “Don” Compton, 76, of Newburgh, IN passed away Friday, August 16, 2019, at Linda White Hospice House. He was born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky on June 30, 1943, to the late Lacy W. and Helen (Clark) Compton.
Don was a former member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ. He started teaching at Boonville High School and retired from the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation, Plaza Park Middle School, where he taught History and Social Studies. Don was known for being a long-distance walker. He loved working in the yard, being outdoors, and reading history books.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gayle (Lee) Compton of Newburgh; sons, Jon Compton (Julie) of Brownsburg, IN, James Compton of Los Angeles, CA and Jeff Compton (Tara) of Richland, IN; grandchildren Rylan and Reagan Compton, Hannah, Holton and Houston Compton.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 24, 2019, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State road 261, Newburgh, IN, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. There will be no services at the funeral home.
