She attended Bruceville High and graduated in the top of her class, receiving a scholarship to IU but chose to go to Indiana Business College in Vincennes. She held jobs at Prudential Insurance, Bruce C. Kixmiller Auto Dealership as a secretary and bookkeeper, Security Bank in Vincennes, tax preparer for over 60 years, owned Kixmiller Tax Service in Newburgh and Lawrenceburg, IN, worked as a real estate agent and rural mail carrier. Dorothy was a member of Berean Bible Church in Evansville and she hosted weekly Bible studies in her home for many years. Being a seamstress was one of her great passions, making clothing for her family well into her 80’s. The most beautiful of all were her custom wedding dresses and bridesmaids dresses made for family and friends throughout the years. She also loved needlework, art, and playing bridge.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Hazel (McCool) and Frank McGary; brothers, Frank Jr., and Ray McGary; sister, Georgia Whetstine; brother-in-law, Leroy Roach; sons, Richard C. and Robert A. Kixmiller; and daughter, Joyce M. Wright (survived by husband Joe).
A mother extraordinaire, wonderful wife, and beautiful woman, she is survived by her husband of 68 years, Richard “Dick” Kixmiller of Newburgh; son, Ray Kixmiller (Kim); daughter, Alice McCormick; sister, Dolores Roach; grandchildren, Angie Smith (Bob), Drew Wright (Jessica), Chris Kixmiller, Danielle McCoy (Shaun), Eric Kixmiller (Lauren), Geoff Beaven (Samantha), Alex Kixmiller, Kale McCormick; nine great grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 28, 2020 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261, Pastor David Siegmann officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Newburgh. Friends may visit Thursday 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Friday, 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
