John was born on August 23, 1930 to Carlos Dibene and Angelita Villegas in Pacoima, CA. He resided in the San Fernando Valley his entire life.
From 1951 to 1953 he served in the US Army during the Korean War as a Master Sargent earning several medals including Combat Infantry, Korean Service with 2 Bronze stars, OCC medal (Japan) and a UN Service medal. He continued to serve in the National Guard for an additional 5 years.
Returning from the war he pursued a career as a barber. At one time during his career he owned 7 barbershops, eventually selling all but one. The same shop in the San Fernando Valley that he began and ended his career of more than 50 years. He was a fixture in the community. Known by many in the area and also known to help those in need. He retired at the age of 84.
John married Anna Krikorian in 1957. They had four children, Greg, Debbie, Lisa and Jon. They divorced in 1973.
In 1975 he married Gloria Soto. They had four children, Margie, Michelle, Shaun and Shannon. They divorced in 1996.
John had many hobbies and gifts. He enjoyed writing poetry, was an avid reader and loved all sports. He was a very gifted and passionate coach. He absolutely loved coaching his kids. He head coached Pop Warner football for many years as well as being a coach for Little League and Softball. He achieved many championships and continued with relationships of many he had coached over the years.
But perhaps one of his greatest gifts was to his children. He taught them the importance of hard work, of achieving your goals, of never complaining and of unconditional love.
John is survived by his eight children and their spouses as well as 19 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
