Floyd "Curly" H Straway, 96, of Newton,died Tuesday, July 27,2021 at home Born in Newton, Curly attended Newton High School Class of 1944. He was a United States Army Veteran, proudly serving during WW II and was the recipient of the Purple Heart.Curly worked for the Newton Board of Education for many years prior to his retirement. He was also the owner and operator of the Newton Flower Shop for 27 years. During his youth, Curly worked for the former Wards flower Shop, as well as the former Darlington Mills in Newton. Curly was a 60 year member of the Branchville American Legion Post 157, a 72 year member of the Harmony Lodge #8 F&AM of Andover, 60 year member of the Former Kittatinny Hook and Ladder Co. ( Now Newton Fire Department), and a member of the First Baptist Church of Newton.
He was also a member of the Prime Time Seniors in Newton and enjoyed playing cards and gardening.
Son of the late Charles and Julia ( Hammell) Straway he was predeceased by his 8 siblings Raymond,
Rhinehart, Wayne, Paul, Willard, Frances, Fay and clara. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Vivian( Conklin) Straway; his daughter Victoria A. Brown of Otisville, NY his son , Jay A. Straway ( Denise ) of Branchville; his 2 grandchildren Marc and Jacob; and granddaughter Jessica .
Funeral Services will be held 1130 a.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at the First Baptist Church of Newton 110 Main St , Newton NJ 07860. with a visitation from 10 to 1130 am Burial to follow in the Newton Cemetery with Military Honors.
