Gerald "Jerry" Glen Grenewicz, 37, of Blairstown, NJ, passed unexpectedly on Sunday May 28th, 2023, incurring fatal injuries from a motorcycle crash on a country road near his home. Jerry was a lifelong New Jersey resident, raised in Budd Lake and Andover Borough, and also resided in Newton, Hampton, and Stillwater, before settling in his first home in Blairstown.
A 2003 Newton High School graduate, in his senior year he was named "most improved player" for the Braves varsity football team. Jerry became a familiar face to many in the Newton area as a long time delivery driver for AG Pizza on Spring Street. He was a big dude, which lent itself well to moonlighting as a bouncer at local bars and clubs. Jerry became a licensed NJ real estate agent, earning a bronze sales award from his agency in just his second year. Often balancing multiple jobs, he worked several stints as an auto mechanic. Most recently, Jerry became well known in the Hope Township area, greeting patrons with his friendly smile and gregarious and helpful nature, while employed at the Hope Liquor Store.
Within the last year, Jerry had committed himself to better health and wellbeing. He was shedding pounds, working out with an old friend and personal trainer, quit smoking, and yes, even was taught yoga by his co-worker! He was hot on the pursuit of a better version of himself and was making strides everyday toward his goals, and building new connections that he was determined would bear fruit in the near future. Those closest to him most recently spoke of him like family, like a son or brother, and he often ate dinner with them and he was invited to all their picnics and holiday gatherings, including Chunk!
Jerry could be found with his beloved dog "Chunk" playing fetch in the backyard, but preferably at a nearby river, tossing the stick into the river for what seemed like hours, and Chunk would never tire. Jerry enjoyed grilling and slow cooking meats, and had a passion for fixing his own and friend's vehicles, especially when it included the satisfaction of helping someone out. He was an avid NJ Devils fan, but also loved NHL Playoff Hockey and as a NY Jets fan, catching NFL games on his off-time while competing with friends in fantasy football. His pastimes included video gaming, dirt bike riding, bowling, billiards, and horseshoes, and other competitive games.
Jerry listened to a wide range of rock and metal music, but also rap, as Biggie Smalls was one of his favorite artists. Jerry loved his dog Chunk more than anything, and was most proud of his home purchase and then getting his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. He left us on that fateful day doing something he loved, cruising on his bike, headed home to be with his best companion Chunk, and likely to fire up the grill for the rack of ribs waiting in the fridge.
Jerry, you are loved and will be deeply missed by Chunk, his family, and countless friends, co-workers, customers, clients, and patrons that he met throughout his life. He is survived by his mother Joy of Branchville, father Wayne and brother James of Stillwater, brother Wayne II and sister-in-law Julie of Andover, nephews Kyle, Raymond, and Nathan, and niece Amber of Andover, Grandma Joy, Uncles Clifford & Glen, Aunts Collette, Renee & Michelle, Cousins Dedra, Katie, Rachael, Ryan, Jesse, John, Dennis, and Desiree.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Jerry's name to your local dog rescue and adoption organization to help more dogs like Chunk find their devoted companions.
Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, June 06, 2023 with visitation from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm at the Smith McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street Newton, NJ 07860. Please bring a photo including Jerry if you would like to share one. A Celebration of Life BBQ Picnic is schedule for his birthday, SUNDAY August 20, 2023. All those who would like to attend the picnic and need more information, please send an e-mail to [email protected] to receive an invitation or otherwise contact his family.
