Herman was born on April 9, 1930 in Carlton Hill (East Rutherford), to the late Frederick and Emma (Remhoff) Hansen. He served in the Korean War aboard USS Fred T. Berry as a Radio Man Class II. After he was honorably discharged from the Navy, he married Gloria Toense of East Rutherford. Hermen worked for Bergen Pipe Support in Carstadt and 35 years for Cole Engineering in Fairlawn as a head welder and fabricator. In retirement after having open-heart surgery, he and Gloria extensively travelled the US, Caribbean Islands and visiting family and friends in Florida and Illinois. Upon Gloria’s passing in 2017, he moved from Clifton to Hampton to be with his family and help on the family farm.
The beloved husband of 65 years to the late Gloria (Toense) Hansen, Herman is survived by his son, David Hansen and his wife Karen; his granddaughter, Leah Korver and her husband David and his great-grandchildren Elizabeth and Andrew Korver. Along with his parents and wife, his five sisters predeceased him.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 1, 2021 from 1-5 p.m. at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton, NJ. A burial will be held at a later date at Northern New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sparta, NJ.
