Radical acceptance means saying yes to life, just as it is. It was a way of life for Autumn Barbare Lancaster Hagan, who died April 20, 2019, in Hanahan, S.C. at age 62. She gave much to many, and her bright light shines on in those who knew and loved her.
Please join us for food and fellowship as we celebrate the life and memory of Autumn Hagan at 4 p.m. April 22, 2019, at the Spring Valley Clubhouse, 1001 Spring Valley Dr. in Hanahan. A private service will be held prior to this gathering for immediate family and friends.
Autumn’s life was one of service, as evidenced by the two families and many animals she raised and the countless family members and friends she nurtured. She had a singular ability to be present with, focused on, and lovingly respectful of others. We remember her quick wit, her thoughtful advice, and the slow cadence of her words, calmly exuding wisdom and truth.
Autumn was born Nov. 27, 1956, in Greer, S.C. She attended Carolina High School and trained as a licensed practical nurse. She spent portions of her adult life in Greenville, S.C., Rogersville, Tenn., Marietta and Jasper, Ga., and Hanahan, S.C. She worked at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville and Hawkins County Memorial Hospital in Rogersville. She was baptized into Pendleton Street Baptist Church in Greenville and was a member of Persia Baptist Church in Rogersville.
Survivors include three children (Trinity Lancaster, Joshua Lancaster, and Gillian Eberhart) from her marriage to Rick Lancaster, who died in 1999. She married William (Bill) Hagan in 2001. He survives, as does their son (Chance Hagan), adult children (Brandon and Kayla Hagan), and loyal companion Brody.
Autumn and Bill raised their grandson Chance, who has grown into a mature young person, and Autumn gave him the wisdom and love to thrive on his journey to becoming a strong, thoughtful, and kind man. Autumn’s long-held wish was to adopt Chance as her son. That dream came true April 10, when Chance officially became her son and she his mom.
Autumn also is survived by nine grandchildren (Jacob, Chloe, and Emma Lancaster; Hannah, Ethan and Avery Eberhart; Ibrahim and Jordan Abdul-Kabir; and Kydon Hagan), three siblings (Mike, Shannon and Kevin Barbare), and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Charleston Animal Society (charlestonanimalsociety.org).
Also, the family asks that in memory of Autumn and as a tribute to her legacy, please commit to spending time with a child this week. Find out what their interests are, and let them know you love them. Autumn had a special talent for connecting with children, and we want to see this kindness spread far and wide.
