Joseph (Joe) Walter Maree passed away March 11, 2019 in Houston, Texas after a brief illness at the age of 95. Joe was born April 12, 1923 in Moncks Corner, South Carolina to Walter Edward Meree and Anna Patrick Meree who preceded him in death.
Joe attended school and worked in Moncks Corner until he volunteered to serve his country in the United States Merchant Marines. Joe was the truest of patriots and a WWII Veteran, famously known as the “Greatest Generation”. He would proudly serve his country for 22 years until his retirement in July 1967. After his service retirement Joe was employed by Costal Electric and Giant Cement.
During Joe’s lifetime his work would take him around the world many times but he was happiest when he was home with the family he treasured. Joe enjoyed entertaining family events, camping, fishing, watching NASCAR or better yet, going to the races.
In addition to his parents Joe is pre-deceased by, his step-mother, Maggie Meree Dukes, three sisters, Lillian Meree, Mary Martin, Aleen Kennedy and one brother, Edward Meree. Joe is survived by one son, Kent Maree, his wife Choey Maree and Elaine Maree Davidson, Kent’s mother, all of Seabrook, Texas. He is also survived by two sister in-laws, two brother in-laws and their families, all of Pasadena, Texas. Surviving siblings are five sisters, Dorothy Meree Smith, Annette Meree Felkel (Ed), Hazel Meree Morris (B.A), Maggie Meree Weatherford, Joyce Meree Bell (Carl) and three brothers, Ernest Meree (Anna), William Meree, Tommy Meree (Betty). Joe leaves many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors who will miss him and cherish his memory with love and affection.
The Celebration of Joe’s life will begin with a visitation on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 from 12:30 PM until service time at 2:00 PM, under the direction of Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC, 29406, (843) 797 2222. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Cemetery.
