Born in Lovington, New Mexico, Kaye was the daughter of the late Charles Walter Fairweather, Jr. and Effie Cobb Meroney Fairweather.
Kaye chose to spend the first 25 years of her post college life as a full time mother to four children who are now successful adults. While their accomplishments are certainly their own, Kaye believed that the energy she devoted to their lives helped them to more nearly live up to their potential. All finished college in 3 to 4 years; all are at least bi-lingual; all have worked abroad.
In addition to caring for her family, Kaye also served the community during those years by: developing and organizing a Mardi Gras Ball for the Lanier Symphony Orchestra in Gainesville, GA while serving as Treasurer for the Board, creating a fund raising dinner for The Quinlan Art Center in Gainesville, while serving on the board, developing and serving on the board of The Gainesville Cotillion to promote family involvement in teenage social activities, serving on the board of the Community Arts Association, Gainesville, working on the board for the Hall County Memorial Hospital, Gainesville, serving on the board of the Ralph Wilson Public Trust in Temple, Texas, assisting in numerous capacities at Grace Episcopal Church in Gainesville as the book shop manager, publicity director and church school teacher, participating in originating The Wine Sippers, a gourmet club in Gainesville, editing a neighborhood newspaper, The Smoke Signal, Writing a book, The Mountain of Controversy, about Stone Mountain in Georgia and working in various civic groups. In Kaye’s word, “I took the admonition of a Southern Baptist preacher very seriously when he insisted that the Holy Spirit was sent to help us make better biscuits. Or, do everything ‘for the glory of God.’”
She is survived by her four children: Laura Mixon Camacho and husband Ruben, John Del Mixon, Jr. and wife Wendy, Jaudon Mixon and wife Cynthia, and Carrie Mixon Peeples and husband Craig, and seven grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 4:00PM on Friday, July 10, 2020 at Carolina Memorial Park Funerals & Cremation located at 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406, 843-797-2222.
