Lita Jennings Keyser, Mount Pleasant, SC – Mrs. Lita Jennings Keyser, 91, of Mount Pleasant, SC, and long-time resident of North Charleston, SC, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 21. Lita was born on April 26, 1927 in Pine Hill, SC, to Bryan and Myrtis Rutland Jennings. At an early age, she moved with her family to the North Charleston area, where she graduated from North Charleston High School in 1944. That same year, she married her high school sweetheart, Sidney Everette “Buddy” Keyser. They lived in the home they built together on Durant Avenue and raised their sons, Robert Sidney “Jackie” Keyser and Gene Everette Keyser, in North Charleston. While her sons were in school, Lita served as the President of the PTA and was also a national member of the organization. She and Buddy loved to travel and took multiple cross-country trips to see the national parks with frequent trips to the lake house they built together in Eutawville, SC. Lita worked in the front office of Park Circle (now Malcolm Hursey) Elementary School for 23 years and oversaw the school’s transition to the computer age. After retiring, she devoted much of her time to supporting her favorite sports teams, with special emphasis on Duke basketball and the South Carolina Stingrays, as a 20-year season-ticket holder. She also enjoyed taking cruises with friends, crosstitching, and traveling to visit family. For the last four years, the community at The Palms of Mount Pleasant provided Lita with warm support and friendships that she cherished.
With her death, she will now be reunited with her husband Buddy and her sons, Jackie and Gene. She is survived by her daughters-in-law, Debra Keyser, of Jacksonville, FL, and Connie Keyser, of Kevil, KY, and her granddaughter, Christina Keyser Vida and her husband Jason Vida, of Richmond, VA. In her final years, she took great joy in spoiling her great-grandchildren Sydney Grace Vida – named for Lita’s late husband – and Morris Jennings Vida – whose middle name is her maiden name. Lita’s spirit and passion will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 30, from 10:00-11:00 A.M. and a life well celebrated service will follow at 11:00 A.M. at the Carolina Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church (Building Fund), 1444 Remount Road, North Charleston, SC 29406.
