Sept 20, 1931 – July 21, 2024
Greta Galanos passed away peacefully at home at the age of 92.
Greta was born on September 20, 1931, in the Bronx, NY, to Anne and Leo Lederman. She
grew up in the Bronx and attended James Monroe High School.
Greta was predeceased by her longtime partner, Howard Drucker (deceased in 2021) and
brother Jack Lederman. She was a beloved mother to her daughter, Susan O’Keefe,
loving mother in law to Todd O’Keefe, and a cherished grandmother to Joshua Gray,
Benjamin Gray, and Shaughn O’Keefe. Additionally, Greta was a loving
great-grandmother to Ashley, Jacob, Darold, and Cillian.
Outside of her work as a secretary, Greta contributed her time and energy to volunteer
work, whether it was community involvement at the local hospital or planting trees in
Israel, working alongside Israeli soldiers as part of Volunteers For Israel.
Greta was someone who defied conventional age boundaries. She remained forever
young at heart, approaching each day with a vitality that inspired all who knew her. Her
laughter could light up a room, and her smile was infectious, a testament to the joy she
found in being in the center of the action and the family matriarch.
Greta had a deep appreciation for good food and drink that brought people together, and
she found joy in the thrill of travel that opened her eyes to new cultures and experiences.
These were not mere indulgences but reflections of her belief in savoring life’s pleasures
and embracing its diversity.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their support and
condolences during this difficult time.
