Aunt Letha was my great-great-aunt, and an absolute joy to be around. Growing up, we never got to play games with the adults unless it was a Yahtzee tournament at a family reunion, but I remember when my sister & I were finally old enough to play chicken foot with my grandma, Mary Holley, Aunt Lete, Tam and Barb. We laughed so hard we cried all night long, and my sister & I would always refer to Aunt Lete, Tam and Barb as the Golden Girls.

Letha was always cracking jokes and making everyone around her smile, and we would hang on to every word when she would tell us stories of what the world was like when she was our age.

Aunt Lete was also steadfast in her love for God and her family, and she came to my baby shower with all of the reassurance and advice that I needed during a time when I was nervous and scared about becoming a mother. Aunt Lete will be greatly missed, and I’m so glad my son had a chance to meet one of the funniest women I’ve ever known.

Aunt Lete meant so much to me. I remember when I was a little girl how I would run around her house playing and singing with her while she cleaned and cooked. She made the best mashed potatoes and fried chicken I have ever had. She taught me to use my manners and to “act right”. I spent every summer, Christmas break, and any weekend I could with her, Tam and Barb until they moved to Atlanta when I was 11. Oh how I missed them when they moved. I remember how much time she spent planning all of our family reunions and how she just wanted her family to have fun and just be together. She loved the Lord with her whole heart and her family just as much. Oh what a reunion it will be when we are all together again in Heaven. I know my sweet daddy Edgar (Buddy) Summerhill was standing at the gates when she walked through them. They were more than brother and sister. They were best friends their whole life. I loved to listen to her stories about their childhood.
I will never forget her laugh, how she would say my name and most of all how much she loved me.

Oh Tammy, it is so very hard to lose our Mamas. She is someone that has been with us for our entire lives. Your Mama was a great lady. I remember the first time I met her...she accepted me like I was family. The trips we've taken and just being with her was a complete joy.
I know you will miss her as well as so many of us that had the privilege of knowing her. Her place in Heaven was waiting for her, and she is finally home. Much love, Lee & Andy

Aunt Lete was always one of my favorite people. I loved to be around her. She loved her family very much and always wanted to spend time with me, even when I was little she always had time for me.

I don’t remember a time in my life when she wasn’t an important part of it. Through the years we have lived in different states. But we always kept in touch and visited each other. I will always cherish the times we had together.

So I’ll just say ‘so long for awhile’ and save my place around God’s throne! She will do it too! Much love. Till we meet again.
