The Bass in Palm Beach Gardens may rest easy, knowing that one of the most dedicated fishermen and family men has passed.
Carmen was married to the love of his life Virginia for 61 years. They had five children: Tommy, Nancy, Carol, Peter and Scott. Friends and family remember the Lizza households both in New York and Florida as always being open for anyone who needed a family. Both Carmen and Ginny never turned away friends. They had ten grandchildren: Tracy, Katie, TJ, Nicole, Peter, Casey, Elizabeth, Gianna, Bailee and CJ, and one great grandchild, Jack. Their adopted children by marriage include Tina, Eileen, Bill, Jackie, and Jennifer; as well as 22 nieces and nephews.
Carmen was born in Roslyn Harbor, NY and played football for Roslyn High School. He later played college football for SUNY Farmingdale while earning a degree for Diesel Mechanics. He then served in the US Army and earned the rank of Corporal. After returning home, he started and ran a family landscaping business with his twin brother Ben until his son Tommy was old enough to take over. He then pursued his passion of joining the commercial fishing industry on Long Island. From duck boats, lobster boats, draggers and more. Carmen had well over 50 boats in his lifetime. He will be remembered for the 4 F’s; Family, Fishing, Football and Friends. He also had a passion for animals and loved sitting under the Blue Heron Bridge with his wife Ginny watching the boats go by. His favorite saying of late was telling his grandsons youth football team, “line up, and just Nail em!”
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 5pm-8pm, Sunday, December 16 with service to begin at 5pm at the Howard Quattlebaum Funeral Home 754, US Highway 1, North Palm Beach, FL 33408. Services will be held in Long Island as well in the Spring of 2019.
