October 19, 1930 – September 21, 2018
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Otto – father, grandfather, great-grandfather. Otto was predeceased by his mother and father and by his brother Alfred. He is survived by his sister Lisbeth and his children Tony (Michelle), Maria (Eric) and Paul (Wendy) and by his grandchildren Jessica, Brooke, Michael and Olivia, great granddaughter Zerine and his extended family both in Germany and Canada.
Otto came to Canada from Germany as a young man in 1951 and quickly showed himself as a hard-working man of honour in his new country. He started as loyal employee at various Canadian companies, combining his hard-working spirit and his attention to detail at various positions. Fiercely independent and always a leader, he ventured on to start his own businesses, where his gifts for conversation and making personal connections ensured their success. The last of his businesses remains in operation today. A man of deep faith, Otto was a fixture at daily mass at Holy Trinity Church in North Vancouver. His faith and leadership won him many friends at the church. Everyone marvelled at his endless energy and his desire to help others as he took on the role of organizer for fundraising for the local chapter of the Knights of Columbus. German by birth, Canadian in heart, he’ll be treasured by all who knew him as our friend, our mentor, our dad and grand-dad.
Funeral services will be held on Monday October 1st, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church 2725 Lonsdale Ave., North Vancouver, BC. Interment will follow at Gardens of Gethsemani in Surrey. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Otto’s memory would be greatly appreciated. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to everyone at North Shore Hospice.
