Robert E. Dowdle

Robert E. Dowdle, Jr., age 80, of Northport, Ala., passed away March 1, 2018 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his wife Yvonne B. Dowdle; father, Robert Earl Dowdle; mother, Ruth Dowdle; and sister, Margaret Ann Fields.

Survivors include his daughters, Donna Galloway (Brian) and Carol La Fleur; son, Robert Steven Dowdle (Susan); brothers, Thomas A. Dowdle and Nelson Dowdle; grandchildren, Erin Bledsoe, Corey Stenman, Ashley Easterling, Alison Dowdle, Anna Galloway, Cameron Dowdle, Adam Stenman, Austin Stenman, Saige Stenman; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Dowdle graduated from Tuscaloosa County, Class of 1956. He worked for GM&O Railroad 1960-1968, earning the position of conductor. He attended The University of Alabama, receiving a BA in Education and an MA in Counseling and Guidance. He worked for the State of Alabama from 1972-1998 as a Vocational Rehab Counselor.

Pallbearers will be Thomas A. Dowdle, Nelson Dowdle, Mike Davidson, Corey Stenman, Cameron Dowdle and Stewart Easterling.

Honorary pallbearers are Tims Dowdle, Mark Atkins and Hubert Caston.
