NORWICH – Chrysanthe “Chris” Kowal, 90, died peacefully on Saturday, February 1st at Villa Maria Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Plainfield.

Chris was born on January 7, 1930 in Norwich to the late Harry and Irene (Maistros) Johnson. On July 20, 1952 she was married to her true soulmate, Chester Kowal. He predeceased her in 2010.

Chris began her working career at the former Ponemah Mills in Taftville. She went on to work at the former Off Track Betting and Dept. of Motor Vehicles, both for the State of Connecticut. She was a committed, strong worker at everything she did. Once her children had grown, she and her husband Chet looked forward to dinners out, shopping and some fun at the casinos.

She is survived by her daughters; Susan Kowal and Irene Kowal, sister; Patricia St. Pierre, grandchildren; Norman Pelletier and April Smith, great grandchildren; Andrew, Austin and Alan Smith, and Isabella and Evan Pelletier along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Chester, a daughter; Cindy Pelletier, brothers; James, Arthur and George Johnson, and sisters; Sophie Estatio and her sister, Jean.

On Thursday, February 6th, there will be a calling hour from 9am till the start of the service at 10am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 247 Washington St. Burial will immediately follow at Maplewood Cemetery, 184 Salem Tnpk., Norwich, CT.
