UNCASVILLE – Eugene S. Kuzia, 85, entered eternal life on Wednesday, Sept 11, 2019.

Gene was born in New London on July 28, 1934 to the late Stephen and Mary (Dufrat) Kuzia. He served honorably in the National Guard and on July 4, 1955 married his beloved wife Barbara (Lasiewicz) who predeceased him in 2015.

Gene worked as a Machinist at United Nuclear, Electric Boat and Federal Paperboard, and as a Commercial Lobsterman throughout his life. Even when not professionally fishing, he seemingly always had a line in the water and could never get in enough fishing to quell his love of the sport. He also enjoyed gardening, his dogs especially Laila, and oil painting seascapes with exquisite attention to detail.

He is survived by his children; James Kuzia, Timothy Kuzia, and Pamela Gonzalez, a brother; Stephen Kuzia, sisters; Bernadette Lynn, Sophia Bird, Patricia Konopka and Kathleen Brooks, two grandchildren; Graham Kuzia and Christian Gonzalez, two great-grandchildren; Elliott Kuzia and Nora Kuzia along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Sept. 15th from 5pm to 7pm at the Montville Funeral Home of Church & Allen, 53 Norwich-New London Tnpk., Uncasville, CT. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, Sept. 16th at 11am at St. John the Evangelist Church, 22 Maple Av., Uncasville, CT. Burial is private at the convenience of the family.

Gene was a unique special person. His imposing physical prowess was an advantage in ocean fishing and construction. He also had other unique abilities especially with a pencil, T square, and paper for project designs. He had agility with a paint brush on artist’s canvas. And he had the ability to make pies. Gene was truly a renaissance man. Chris Kuckert

To All, I read this with sadness as there will be one empty chair this holiday season but I delight in the vision of your mom and dad dancing in heaven. Gene smiled with his whole face lit up and your moms’ smile went from ear to ear😊. They are truly a match made in heaven. He was so very proud of his children and grandchildren. He always greeted Jack and me like family and kept us entertained with stories, accomplishments and dreams for his future. I passed on his offer to share manure for my garden but kept the offer of viewing his artwork in mind. I wish I could have fulfilled that date. He will be remembered with love and respect. May treasured memories continue to enrich your lives. Love, Sally
