Terry L. Finch

September 30, 1953July 30, 2019

Terry L. Finch, 65 of Oxford, NY passed away at his home, surrounded by family and friends, on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 after battling cancer. Terry, better known to his grandchildren as “Bumpa”, was a very special man to all who knew him. He was a mentor to many children in the Oxford community, as a baseball and basketball coach and as of late, could be found on the sidelines of his granddaughter’s sporting events. He was an avid golfer and loved to hunt on his property in Oxford and on the annual “bear” hunting trip. He was the master of all card games and those who knew him best wanted him on their team because of his ability to count cards. He was a true NY Giants and NY Yankees fan and would often go to games with his boys. Terry worked as a supervisor at the Raymond Corporation for over 40 years and had lifelong friendships with the people he worked with. Terry is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Linda (Ballin); his son Jason and Holly Finch and their children Jillian and Jocelyn; his son Keith Finch and Kelli Whitehill and their children Kenzie and Kolton; his twin sister, Sharon (Finch) and Gary Carpenter and their sons, Scott and Chris; Donna (Finch) Clark and her children, Robert and Kristina; Connie (Finch) and Tim McGowan; and Andy and Cory Finch and their children, Tom and Rebecca. He was predeceased by his parents, Floyd and Sally Finch; his inlaws, William and Patricia Ballin; his brother in law, William Ballin, Jr. and his brother in law, Robert “Abe” Clark. A special thank you to his nephew, William “Billy” Ballin III for being by Terry’s side at the toughest time in his life. A celebration of life will be held at the Oxford Fire Station on Sunday, August 4, 2019 from 1:00-4:00pm, all are encouraged to come and share stories about Terry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his name to the Oxford Youth Sports Program, ℅ Corey Endress, 5 Columbia Street, Oxford, NY 13830.

I remember when my Mom (Rosie) asked Terry to pick up a wooden swing for her. It was much larger than he anticipated, but he brought it back and it’s still there today. She enjoyed many hours swinging on it over the years. School days to time spent at their house come flashing back. Prayers being sent to all of you.

My fondest memory of Terry was in the 4th grade. He handed me a note and wanted me to be his girlfriend. It was so innocent and so cute. We were friends for life. Anyone who met and knew him was. Just an all around great guy. My heart goes out to his family and other friends, life will not be the same without him. May he Rest In Peace and know that he was loved by many.

"La Finch"

I met Terry when I was a co-op at The Raymond Corporation over 30 years ago. I eventually joined the leadership team and worked with him on numerous activities. When I first joined management Terry, myself, and another Oxford native son Craig Chesbro shared a balcony with offices - during this time is when he became known as "La Finch" or "The Finch" .

I was very saddened to learn Terry was sick, and even sadder when I learned of his recent passing.

Terry, and other dedicated, friendly, jovial, people like him are one of the main reasons I am still with Raymond today.

Rest easy my friend your journey is done ... look in on those you loved and left behind occasionally .... there will NEVER be another La Finch !!!

Linda & family~I have the BEST memories from all those years of celebrations, (birthdays, anniversaries, golf, etc), with the many friends & family that brought us altogether. ALWAYS had a great time! Thank you for being such a huge part of those good times. I will always love you because of them & will miss Terry's presence in future get-togethers.
TERRY~I've known you since high school (was always fascinated at your speed on the B-ball court) & am thankful I got to know you as a friend thru the years (always appreciated the talks regarding our 'Giants', golf tips, & advice for life in general).
I'll never forget the smile & laugh that got everyone around you to do the same~gone too soon, my friend~I will miss you! I never told you what an honor it was to have been on your team at last years Finch Golf~~now you'll get as many 'holes in one' that you want.

My condolences to all of Terry’s family. Worked with Terry for all our years together at Raymond, he was more than just a coworker, he was dear friend and I’m so saddened to hear of his passing. He and his family are in my thoughts daily.

Terry this is your cousin Darlene. You will be greatly missed by your family. The one thing I will always remember about you is your laugh. To hear you laugh would make me laugh. You had that contagious laugh that no matter who heard it they had to laugh too. I saw your sister Sharon when I visited her on my last trip home and I will never forget how broken her heart was when she said to me that you two came into this world together as twins and how hard it would be to go on without you. The love and closeness of your family will help them all heal and the many great memories will live on for generations to come. R.I.P. Terry....Love your cousin Darlene
