William H. Kraft

William H. Kraft, 84, formerly of McDonough, passed away on February 12 under the care of Hospice of Central NY. William was born in McDonough on August 20, 1936 to the late Wellington Kraft and Agnes Granger. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1955. After high school, William served his country in the US Navy, stationed in Key West until his discharge in 1959. After his military service, William returned to Central New York and made his living as a machinist with New Process Gear. He was a devoted member of McDonough American Legion Post 1478. William is survived by his children; Cindy Kraft, Tammy and Michael Hayes, Leslie Kraft, and Randy and Todd Tarzia; his grandchildren, Donald, Jeremy, Willis, Jamie, Paula, Tim, Sierra, Amanda, Allyson, Meghan, Zachary, and Kayla; 16 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Gloria Middleton, Ruby VanDuser, Donald and Sherry Granger, and Kenneth and Sue Granger. Along with his parents, William was predeceased by his longtime companion Sammie Rounsville; his brother, Jerry Granger; and his daughter Debra Schoonmaker. A memorial service for William will take place at 12:00 pm on Saturday, March 13, at R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 N. Broad St. Norwich with Pastor Bob Prentice officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 am until the time of service. Burial with military honors will take place in the spring at McDonough Union Cemetery.

Bill was one of the kindest men I have known. And what a dancer, even when he claimed he didn't have the correct shoes. I loved hearing stories about my dad from him. He was a good man who faced any misfortune, and there were many, with patience and fortitude. You will be missed. RIP.
