Judith was a proud graduate of Norwood High School Class of 1964 and Simmons College AB 1968, MSW 1971. As a LICSW Judith worked for a long period at Wrentham State School where she facilitated the deinstitutionalization of residents and later directed the Employee Assistance Program there. In other parts of her career Judith worked as an advocate for children and families as a foster care supervisor, geriatric social worker and therapist.
Outside of her work Judith was an avid reader, accomplished quilter, Women’s Community Committee volunteer, and bargain shopper. She especially enjoyed time at the beaches of Orleans with her family throughout her life. Most of all she loved doing anything that involved her grandchildren.
She was the daughter of the late Martin and Natalie (Smith) Lydon and the beloved wife of James F. Gormley. Loving mother of Sarah Quinn of Norwood and Daniel Gormley and his wife Allyson of Milton. Cherished grandmother of Daniel, Matthew and Shannon Quinn and Cameron and Teddy Gormley. Devoted sister of Lois E. Lydon of Norwood and the late Christopher Lydon. Sister –in-law of Helen Wyche and her husband Byron of Norwood and Claire Gormley and her late husband Joseph of N. Attleboro and Falmouth. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 17th at 10:00am from the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole Street (Rte. 1A), Norwood, followed by a memorial service at 11:00am at the First Congregational Church of Norwood, 100 Winter Street, Norwood. Inurnment will follow the service in Highland Cemetery, Norwood. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 4:00-8:00pm at the funeral home.
