Viola Elizabeth Morse
July 8, 1929 – February 4, 2020
Viola Elizabeth (Gustafson) Morse of Carver, formerly of Dedham passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at the age of 90.
Born in Boston, MA on July 8, 1929 she was one of eight children born to Karl & Alva (Anderson) Gustafson. Viola grew up in the West Roxbury neighborhood of Boston and was proud of her Swedish ancestry and West Roxbury roots. Viola graduated from Roslindale High School with the class of 1946 and took a job as a bank teller soon after graduation. In her younger years, Viola enjoyed going to the Boston Braves games and roller-skating at Roll-Land Skating Rink in Norwood. It was at Roll-Land that she met and fell in love with her future husband Richard. The young couple were married in 1950 and settled in Dedham, where they raised their four children. It was then that Viola started working as an electronics assembler for Codex Corporation in Mansfield. In the late 1970’s Viola and Richard moved to the south shore and settled in Carver. During the summers, Viola loved camping in Maple Park in Wareham and travelling across the country in an RV with her family.
For 69 years she was the beloved wife of Richard A. Morse. Loving mother of Richard J. Morse & his wife Laurieanne of FL, Steven A. Morse & his wife Laura of NH, Karen E. Clougher & her husband Brian of Norwood, and James R. Morse of Brockton. Cherished grandmother of Jeffrey Morse & his wife Kanjana, Joseph Morse, Kelly Adler & her husband Justin, Kimberly Clougher, Michael Greez & his wife Robin, Noah Greez and great-grandmother of two. Devoted sister of the late Lennart, William, Harold, Vincent, Russell, Stanley and Herbert Gustafson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives & friends are invited to attend visiting hours in the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St, Norwood on Saturday, February 8 from 10AM-12PM followed by a funeral home service at 12Noon. Burial will take place privately at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Viola’s name may be made to the Cranberry Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Circle, Plymouth, MA 02360.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Viola was such a nice person. I can't think of many memories from my childhood in East Dedham that doesn't include the Morse family; especially Dick, who was a close friend when we were growing up. May God give you all comfort during this difficult time. Bill Canavan
