Eugene "Gene" James Kurowski

September 6, 1933May 13, 2020

Eugene James Kurowski (“Gene”), 86, of Kingsville, MD, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2020. He is survived by his devoted, loving wife of 62 years, Marlene (née Kempf), as well as four children: Michael (Maria), John (Kathleen), Tom (Gigi), and Mary Barron (Matthew); eleven grandchildren: Alexander and Grace Kurowski, Caroline, Jack and Kathryn Kurowski, Bridget (Dan) Roseman, Patrick (Maddie), Christian (Kaylan) and Nicole Kurowski, Bradley and Madelyn Barron, and five great grandchildren: Tessa and Joanna Roseman, Peter, James and William Kurowski. He is also survived by his sister, Phyllis Hobbs (Will) as well as nieces, a nephew and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents James F. and Hedwig A. Kurowski. He will be sorely missed by all those who had the privilege to know him.

Gene suffered numerous health issues for the past several years without complaint. He was a thoughtful, faithful Catholic who loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather (a.k.a. Dzia Dzia) and great grandfather. He loved and was proud of his Polish heritage, passing along many Polish traditions to his family.

Gene started his career in sales and found a second career as a stockbroker where he loved working with clients. He started with Legg Mason in 1982 and retired from Ferris, Baker Watts in 2006.

He was an Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War.

Gene was exceptionally proud of being an alumnus of both Loyola Blakefield and Loyola College. He forged lifelong friendships with a group of fellow college graduates called The Lamplighters, who enjoyed each other's company for decades at many social events and family outings.

He was a sports enthusiast and always enjoyed listening to, and watching, the Orioles, the Colts and then the Ravens.

Gene and his sister Phyllis were born into a strong Catholic family where faith, education and family mattered most. He grew up on Patterson Park Ave where the Park was his front yard. He always said it was the best place to spend your childhood.

He met the love of his life, Marlene in 1956. They were married in 1957. They later moved to the suburbs to raise their young family and provide them with a Catholic grade school and high school education. They were parishioners of St. Stephen Church in Bradshaw, MD for over 50 years, where all four children graduated.

Due to COVID-19, there will be a private Catholic burial Mass at St. Stephen Church in Bradshaw, MD.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gene’s memory to:
