May 10, 1952 – April 22, 2020
Michael Matejak, 67, passed away at the Palos Hospital on April 22, 2020 due to complications of the COVID 19 virus.
In 1952, he was born in Springfield, Massachusetts to parents Sophie Kopec Matejak and Jan Matejak. Though born in Massachusetts he was a true Illinoisan, loving everything about his town, Chicago. He sounded like a native Chicagoan and embraced everything that was Chicago. Graduating from Oak Lawn Community High School, he went on to attend the University of Illinois, graduating with a degree in business. Michael had a great love of music and was an accomplished musician, having won recognition at state competitions. From the Beatles to the polka he loved it all. Professionally Michael worked in South Bend, Indiana for a number of years before returning to Oak Lawn. Although a great fan of all sports, the Cubs were #1 for him.
He is survived by cousins, Judith McPhail, Ronald LaMontagne, and Laura Bachard. He will be interred at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery in Alsip, Illinois.

I was friends with Mike for 45 years. We both worked at Berry Bearing Company in the 1970's and shared many good times together hearing some great live music (jazz, blues, bluegrass, rock), playing tennis, biking, swimming, and watching baseball games. He was the best man at our wedding and will always be remembered for his hearty laugh.

Mike and grew up together, we were next door neighbors from the age of one year old and went to school together all the way thru high school.
Mike, Tim Hanson and myself were best buddies and for the most part inseparable.
I very much enjoyed listening to him play the accordion, and would often turn the pages of his sheet music as he played.
