Ruth P. Hendzel (nee Gayowsky), age 85, of Oak Lawn, Illinois passed away at home on Wednesday March 18, 2020. Ruth was born October 12, 1934 in Brandon, Manitoba Canada. Beloved wife of the late Walter F. Hendzel; cherished mother of David (Laurel) Hendzel, Diane (Russ) Laube, Gregory (Cynthia) Hendzel, Jennifer (Michael) Blattner and the late Gary Hendzel; loving grandmother of Colleen (Evan) Lukowski, Kevin Hendzel, Elizabeth and Emily Hendzel, Jack and Joe Blattner; adoring great-grandmother “Gigi” of Ivy Lukowski; dear sister of Daniel (Dorothy Gayowsky); fond sister in law of many; caring aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Ruth cherished time with family and looked forward to birthdays, holidays and card games with Wally’s spirited sisters. She was blessed with many dear friends including her lively “Lunch Bunch”.

As a devoted member of St. Gerald’s parish she served as Eucharistic Minister and was active in the choir. The rosary group gave her strength and support and she was grateful to be a part of it. Ruth will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Due to the current health environment, initial service is limited to the immediate family. A public gathering to celebrate Ruth’s life will be announced at a future date.

Flowers are not being accepted at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Red Cross at www.redcross.org or charity of your choice.
