Valerie Marie Urchell

Valerie M. Urchell, age 61, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023. She is survived by her loving children: Joseph R. Urchell and Nicole M. Urchell; sister, Shelly A. (Duane) Hanacek and many dear nieces nephews and friends.

Preceded in death by her husband, Joseph R. Urchell and siblings: Barbara J. Rueckheim, Edward C. Freiberg, Jr., William H. Freiberg and John E. Freiberg.

Valerie Marie Urchell was born on February 2nd, 1962 in Evergreen Park, Illinois to Edward C. Freiberg and Florence H. Freiberg (née Beckford). Attending high school at Evergreen Park High, Valerie enjoyed photography and history. Valerie also had a keen affinity for politics and world events, which she enjoyed discussing at length throughout her life.

Valerie married Joseph Richard Urchell on October 27th, 1984. Having two children, Joseph Richard, Jr. and Nicole Marie, they enjoyed 40 years together.

Valerie was first and foremost a homemaker and mother, tending to her family with the utmost love and affection. Later in her life, Valerie worked as a Supervisor and later a Front End Manager for Sam’s Club. She enjoyed her time there and her coworkers immensely, always having a funny story to tell about the happenings there. Valerie’s hobbies included watching Chicago Blackhawks games, listening to her favorite Eric Clapton or Led Zeppelin albums, tending her garden, listening to podcasts, and caring for her Cape Parrot, Kona.

Valerie’s quick wit, steadfastness in her opinions, sense of humor, and immense love for her family and close friends will be greatly missed by all.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 W. 103rd St., Oak Lawn, IL. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023, 10:00 A.M. at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home. Rev. Fred Pesek officiating. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery Alsip, IL.
