Bernice E Hancock passed away March 9, 2017 at Legacy House, Ocala FL at the age of 90. Bernice was born October 5, 1926 in Doerun, Ga to Alfred C. Greene and Ola Elizabeth Greene. In 1943 she married Rufus L. Hancock and together they had four children. In 1947, they moved from Moultrie Georgia to Irvine FL. She moved to Eureka FL in 1994 to be closer to family. Bernice was famous for her turkey dressing on holidays and her rum cake throughout the year. Because there is such a request, her granddaughters have taken the role of perfecting them. So many memories were made on the grand front porch at the little red house in Irvine and then on her front porch in Eureka. Advice was given, promises made, and love was shared. Bernice was always thinking of everyone but herself and it was the children that came before all others. Even through her darkest moments, her words were still focused on those that mattered most, "Take care of the kids." And we will.
Bernice is pre-deceased by her husband Rufus and son Eddie. She is survived by her children; Ray (Ruth) Hancock, Betty Pompie, and Teresa (Roy) Doty. 5 grandchildren; Jackie (Joey) Alarcon, Cindy Hancock, Adrianne Manning, Alicia Pompie, and Danielle (Will) Adkins. 7 great-grandchildren; Tristan, Kinley, Roy, Camden, Evangeline, Paisley and Reagan.
Visitation will be held from 10am to 11am on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the Anthony First Baptist Church, 2551 NE 98th Street, Anthony, Florida 32617. Funeral Services will start at 11am at the Church, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Ocala, Florida.
