Ray Geisel, born Feb 25, 1931, in Holyoke, Mass, went to his Heavenly home on Nov 23, 2013. Ray was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Rita Cuomo Geisel, who left us in 2009, his daughter, Barbara Marie Ditty and parents Raymond and Elizabeth Geisel, all of Ocala. Ray is survived by his son, Robert Geisel, his wife Liz and their five children; his daughter Linda, her husband Mark Weaver and their three children, and five children from his daughter Barbara and husband Gary Ditty. Ray is also survived by his brother Fred and wife Liz Geisel of Gainesville. Ray spent his youth in Holyoke, Mass. During the Korean Conflict, Ray served in the United States Marine Corps. He relocated to Ft. Lauderdale in 1954 where he met and married Rita in 1960. Ray and Rita moved their family to Ocala in 1978 when Ray retired from his career as a home builder. Ray and Rita were active members of the Blessed Trinity Catholic Church. In his spare time over the years, Ray was a cast member of several productions of the Ocala Civic Theatre. He also enjoyed woodworking and "puttering" in his greenhouse with his orchids. Ray had a heart for prison ministry and donated many hours working with residents of the local prisons and jails. Out of his experiences with these men and women, Ray founded the Christian 12-Step Ministries program. Ray and Rita gave 25 years of service to this ministry and their community. Celebration Mass will be at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church. Please contact the church office at 629-8092 for date and time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be considered for Hospice of Marion County ( or Christian 12-Step Ministries (

Having worked with both Ray and Rita, I know what a loss his passing is to the community and the country at large. The ministry helped thousands of people to learn they were worth more than they ever thought possible and they were loved more than they ever thought they deserved. Even though he had retired, his spiritual influence was felt, I'm sure. What a beautiful heart and willingness to be a servant for his LORD.

I remember Ray always being kind to me. I remember him showing me his "man" cave and it was very nice. Now you are home with Rita. Peace
