James Robert Allmond

James Robert Allmond, 87, passed away on February 6, 2020 at Tri-City Medical Center, Oceanside, CA, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Mary Jo Allmond. They shared 66 years of marriage.

Born in De Queen, AR on December 14, 1932, Jim was the son of Emory Martin Allmond and Martha Ellen Reese. He graduated from De Queen High School in 1950. Jim served in the Louisiana National Guard for two years and then joined the U.S. Navy in 1951 at Little Rock, AR and became a Hospital Corpsman. Jim rose to the rank of Master Chief (E-9).

Jim’s duty stations included, Tripler Army Hospital, Territory of Hawaii; Camp Lejuene, NC; Army Research Hospital, Fort Totten, NY; U.S. Naval Hospital Portsmouth, VA; Joint United States Military Advisement Group, Bangkok, Thailand; National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD; Naval Regional Medical Center, U.S. Naval Base, Yokosuka, Japan; and Naval Regional Medical Center, Camp Pendleton, CA.

Jim served our nation with distinction for over 30 years until he retired in October 1981.

After retiring from the United States Navy, Jim went to work for the United States Postal Service for over 10 years.

Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Esther Jo Allmond Beltrani, his mother and his father.

Jim was a member of Stonebrooke Church and served as a deacon as well as teaching a Sunday School class. He enjoyed gardening, reading, and studying history. Jim will be remembered for his outgoing personality and winning smile! He never met a stranger; they were just friends he hadn’t met yet. Jim always asked, “where do you go to church?” and then he would invite them to attend Stonebrooke Church. Jim is survived by

His grandchildren: Dr. Sean Doris and wife, Dr. Sarah Woldemariam of San Francisco, CA Kelly Sundar and husband, Kasev Sundar of Woodbridge, VA

His great grandchildren: Addison Sundar and Madelyn Sundar of Woodbridge, VA

His loving dachshunds: Hans and Lily

The memorial service will be held on February 20, 2020 at 11 am at Stonebrooke Church, 145 Hannalei Drive, Vista, CA, with internment at Eternal Hills Memorial Park, 1999 El Camino Real, Oceanside, CA at 2 pm.
