Berdyne Marie (Hutton) Ross
April 23, 1926 – June 13, 2018
Berdyne Marie Hutton Ross from Odessa, Texas died Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at home with her family by her side.
Berdyne Marie Hutton was born on April 23, 1926 on the farm in Egan South Dakota Moody county to Rosyln Catherine (Brinker) Hutton and Guy Hutton.
She graduated from Egan High School and was proud to attend Augustana College in Sioux Falls South Dakota receiving her teaching certificate in 1946. She taught elementary school in Natalie Springs, Armor, Dell Rapids and Mobridge South Dakota. Berdyne married Charlie Ross (deceased) from Nederland, Texas on June 18, 1955 in Egan South Dakota. At the time of his death, they were married 47 years. During their marriage, Charlie and Berdyne were blessed with two children: Rosyln and Dorothea. They made a great team - "mama would come up with the ideas and daddy would build it."
Berdyne leaves behind a legacy of volunteerism. She became a member of the Boy Scouts of America in 1956 and immersed herself into the organization passionately, for a total of 62 years. In 1971, she received one of the most prestigious, coveted awards that the Boy Scouts gave, the silver fawn. It was the first year (of three) the Silver Fawn award was presented, to only 382 women nationally. She also earned the Cub Scout Wood Badge, Boy Scout Wood Badge and God and Service award. She was also a lifetime member of the Parent Teachers Association (PTA)
She was an involved member of United Methodist Women for over 60 years and St. Luke's United Methodist Church for 59 years. She was a supportive caregiver and did what was needed. She was a good listener, allowing people to come up with solutions for themselves. Berdyne was also very involved and supported the West Texas Crisis Center, The Permian Playhouse and Childrens Clothes Closet.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two daughters Rosyln Ross (Tracy Scribner) of Odessa Texas and Dorothea Ross (Eddie Stankiewicz) of Arvada Colorado; two granddaughters Rachel and Rebecca and five furbabies.

I remember Berdyne as the sweetest lady, so soft spoken, always with a smile on her face! She was a pillar at St Luke’s and a true example of one living a Christian life. My love and sympathy to you girls and family
